Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Irakli Karseladze and State Representative in Imereti Zviad Shalamberidze were on the damaged section of the Samtredia-Grigoleti highway.

"On the first lot of the Samtredia-Grigoleti highway, on which the construction is underway, the 8th pier of the bridge under construction was damaged, which caused the collapse of two Mali structures resting on this pier. Fortunately, no one was injured, which is the most important thing. The study of the reasons has already been started, absolutely all relevant services, experts, engineers are involved in order to determine the reasons for this. Naturally, as a result of the study, depending on the reasons, relevant measures will be implemented" - the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Irakli Karseladze, said this after inspecting the site of the damaged section of the bridge under construction over the Rioni River on the first section of the Samtredia-Grigoleti highway.

Representatives of all technical services of the Highways Department were present at the scene of the accident since morning. As soon as the water level of the Rioni River drops, a special study of the damaged and submerged section will begin.

The construction of the first 11.5 km section of Samtredia-Grigoleti is in the final stage. This section of the road will pass through the city of Samtredia and 4 villages of Samtredia and Abashi municipalities (Tolebi, Gormaghala, First May, Gautskinari). The works are financed from the state budget.
