13 August, 2020

State Representative in Imereti Zviad Shalamberidze met with the Ambassador of Ukraine to Georgia Igor Dolgov, who is on a two-day working visit to Kutaisi. As the State Representative noted after the meeting, the conversation focused on the experience of fighting the Covid, as well as future prospects.

"We shared with Ambassador the successful practice of fighting Covid-19 in the region, how each local structure was involved, how we fought the coronavirus together all this time. The ambassador was also interested in Kutaisi International University and we talked about the prospects for Ukraine, as well as the exchange program for students and professors, "- said Zviad Shalamberidze.

According to the Ambassador of Ukraine, he is glad that the first departure from Tbilisi after the quarantine took place in Kutaisi.

"We all have a difficult period and trial, which is connected with a new disaster - a new infection that changed the whole world, including the life of Georgia. Therefore, I am very glad that my first trip outside Tbilisi, after quarantine, took place right here in Kutaisi. A region, a big city with traditions and great connections with my Ukraine and Ukrainians. I am grateful to the Governor that during this conversation we discussed not only the fight against the epidemic and not only how to improve business in this difficult time and provide support to the population, but also development prospects: what should be done in the future, in what direction and where are these directions? Which will continue to unite peoples. I am glad to hear that the grand opening of the new international university will be held in Kutaisi in September. I hope this is a step towards the future, towards new science and new education, and there is a lot to learn from each other," - said Igor Dolgov.

The Ambassador of Ukraine to Georgia will stay in Imereti today and tomorrow and, as he noted, will try to learn more about the current activities in the region, as well as the fight against infections and where more can be done.
