Tea picking has started in the village of Kvatsikhe, Chiatura Municipality

Tea picking has started in the village of Kvatsikhe, Chiatura Municipality. State Representative in Imereti Zviad Shalamberidze got acquainted with the work process on the spot.

Agricultural Cooperative "Kvatsikhe Tea Bouquet" is cultivated on 12 hectares and tea picking is actively underway in the plantation. The cooperative started reviving Georgian tea 4 years ago within the framework of the state program "Georgian Tea". Within the framework of the program, the tea plantation was rehabilitated and with the funding of the same program, a modern mini factory was provided free of charge by the state, with the help of which it produces high quality black tea. Also, the mentioned cooperative took part in the grant competition announced in Chiatura Municipality and won, as a result of which 10,000 Euros were awarded as a grant from the European Commission. With this money, the cooperative bought a one-time packaging apparatus.

In order to develop and promote Georgian tea, the mentioned agricultural cooperative build a mini-factory, where raw materials will be processed according to modern standards. In 2020, 5 tons of finished product is expected to be received, which is about 24 tons of raw material. At the moment, the company employs 70 people. In the future, it is planned to expand production and further employ the local population. As for the production of finished products, according to the heads of the "Kvatsikhe Tea Bouquet", green tea is planned to be produced in the future, as well as the purchase of a special roller machine, through which they intend to produce natural children's tea.
