30 years have passed since the tragedy of April 9, 1989. First Deputy State Representative in Imereti Zviad Shalamberidze, Deputy Representative Ioseb Khakhaleishvili, local government officials and citizens laid flowers and paid homage to the memory of the victims at the April 9 memorial in Tskaltubo. Also, the literary performance was held and the footage shot 30 years ago was presented.

The events dedicated to April 9 are held in 12 municipalities of Imereti region.

On April 9, 1989, parts of the Soviet Union armed forces dispersed peaceful protest rally in the center of Tbilisi, which caused victims.

21 people were killed in the raid. Thousands of people gathered outside the parliament were poisoned by unidentified gas.

On April 9, 1991, the Supreme Council announced the restoration of the state independence of Georgia.
