On November 5, the Mission of the European Investment Bank (EIB) discussed the planned wastewater network and treatment plant design together with management of United Water Supply Company and local municipality in Kutaisi.

The EIB will finance the extensive works associated with installation of modern wastewater network in the city and construction of treatment plant of European standards.

At the business meeting, the parties deliberated on the establishment of project implementation unit, which will pool experts and competent individuals from the Company and municipalities.

The said unit will update the Kutaisi population, comply the final design of the project with the requirements of the beneficiary and develop the infrastructure of the city.

Currently the international bidding for design and supervision services for installation of sewage network and treatment plant is completed. Now bidder companies are being selected and winner is being declared. The bidding for construction/rehabilitation works will be announced at the end of 2019. The winner company will start works in 2020.

After the completion of the project, a new wastewater infrastructure will serve the Kutaisi population; once the wastewater treatment plant is commissioned, it will employ a complete biological treatment cycle thereby significantly reducing environmental pollution risks in the region.
